I have my own ISP

I love snow! and my new internet access. It came just in time today after my free connection elusively disappeared as it has been doing lately. Plus something I didn't realize is that the new improved connection really is new and improved. It's WAY faster. I did not expect this.Internet connection speeds are very subtle force of nature (or non nature) and you don't notice the fastness or slowness until it changes. Drastically. Frosti rubbed up against the nice cable man's knee and he patted him.It was a sight for sore eyes. Mr.Cable man was happy he didn't have to go outside and do things with wires.

Recylcing Paper

Do you recycle paper? Well you should. Everybody should. So much trash is paper that if you recycle it you rarely need to empty the regular trash because the paper recycling fills up way faster. I can't even imagine if I had compost going. That'd be great. Don't get me wrong...I'm no saint(see that balthazer to go cup at the bottom of my recycling bag?)but everybody who has free recycling service in nyc should be recycling paper, plastic and tin cans. Plus, you can get a shredder at staples for $20 or just use scissors.

Astronomer Moon Starer

Today my Dad sent me an email of all different words that make other words and my favorite was Astronomer Moon Starer. What exactly is a moon starer? I certainly would like to know. In addition to that big news I will be making some bean soup for a late lunch. This is major since I don't cook and was notoriously bad about ever bringing my lunch to work. Needless to say today is my moment. I will be making 3/4 gallon of bean soup.I do not have high hopes but am going to try it and if worse comes to worse drown it with shredded parmesan cheese.

Home improvements etc...

In the meantime until the internet gets connected I have been doing some home improvements and baking in between visits to the internet café "urban rustic". This cafe name is very funny to me because everything is rustic these days. There's even a decor term called "modern rustic". I installed the ironing board/iron combo in the kitchen and I fancy it as a Duchampian art object. I also finally put up my beautiful moon day calendar which Dennis gave my for Christmas and baked some gingerbread cookies which is something I've been set on doing since last year at this time. The cookies were supposed to be  crispy rolled out cookie cutter kind instead of cake-ish version but I made a mistake in the recipe. No matter! they are still delicious and will be even better with vanilla ice cream.

Anthropologie displays

Do you know what job I want? I want the one where I get to hot glue real moss to crumpled paper inside the anthropologie store. I saw a girl doing it today. She was making displays in there. It looked really fun.The only thing I'm skeptical about is how the workers tolerate the music...it's the worst ever.

Vaastu

Majorly sick of working on my resume already but the good news is I got some work doing photo editing for a new book about Vaastu which is like the Indian version of feng shui. I'm still reading the text so I can't elaborate yet. This is really exciting to me because I never dreamed my day job of photo editing would cross paths with yoga, ayurveda etc... I'm not getting paid US dollars for this work but am getting paid in yoga classes which is equally valuable to me. Oh happy day. I love bartering!

A&S

Arts & Science is a very cool online Japanese boutique that sells their own brand, A&S, in addition to a few others. I like everything to the site but haven't figured out how one would purchase anything if you're from the US which is probably a good thing.

Rotten Resume Writing

My resume is intimidating me.It must've taken me ages to concoct it. All those tenses and descriptive words...it's that phenomenon where you find old papers from college and marvel how you knew all that info and managed to write such a thing.

Sit and Read Showroom

Today Dennis and I went to the sit and read showroom. It's chock full of goodies like McCoy pottery and Eames shell chairs. The guys who run it are super nice and generous with their info on modern furniture. Usually it's appointment only but occasionally they have open houses like today for example. 232 Grand St., Brooklyn,NY

Picasso Pitcher

With this pitcher it's hard for me to tell which part is the beak. I can't tell the front from the back but it doesn't matter. This makes me think about making work that doesn't have a front or back like a painting that has two sides one for summer and one for winter just like the slipcovers in the Miller house in the conversation pit...red for winter and white for summer. Photo from // \\ // \\ // \\

Castaner since 1927

I'm not usually a fan of the gladiator shoe but this one I could get into. Castaner has been making espadrilles and bags for years. The history section of the  web site has wonderful old photos of their shoes and accesories like the espadrilles above for YSL.

More Saarinen

I can't get enough Saarinen plus I had to find the photo in the exhibit which showed the tulip dining table styled in a more festive and less refined way. And I found it! Turns out in this photo the table had been styled for a 1959 house and garden shoot. I learned that this particular tulip table contains a pump so the table can be a "fountain, lily pond or lawn".Having any of those three as a centerpiece would be fine with me. Please see Decor Arts Now for more photos and interesting details on the Miller House.

Inventive Shelves and Chairs

I can't remember where I got these pictures.I think they came from one of the apt therapy home/apt tours which are really fun to look at if you're bored at work. Did I just say that? Well, being bored at work is no longer my problem because as a freelancer I do my work and leave. The world is my oyster! It's very efficient and satisfying in some respects. I love this chair with the orange foam. It's so transparent the way somebody needed to make a hard chair more comfortable so they just wrapped it with foam.

The Museum of the city of New York-Eero Saarinen

If you can go check out this exhibit before it's over on the 31st of January. It's really remarkable and now I see his influence everywhere. I loved all the photos of his churches and cathedrals with big hunks of marble for altars. It reminded me of a giant mortar and pestle and some even had the centers removed for plants just like the dining table at the Miller house. Dining should always be a religious experience. Is there really anything more appealing for socializing than a conversation pit or sunken living room?  The interior of the Miller House came together with a sophisticated use of textiles by Alexander Girard looking better than ever. Klala

A totally cool Japanese store that sells vintage ceramics and handmade stuffed cats by Sian Keegan. What's harder than becoming a machine that spits out resumes and cover letters? giving a cat a pill. Frosti needs to take some pills 2x a day for 2 weeks. His poor dental hygiene haunts us.Its seems that in addition to cultivating my home yoga practive I will also be implementing a daily cat teeth brushing regiment in my free time.Off to the Museum of the City of New York. There is a Eero Saarinen show there and the admission is pay what you wish.

Listing

Oh what to post about.I have to suspend interest in anything monetary and frivolous and brunch-ish until I can find a new job but I guess even more of a reason to post about that kinda stuff on ctstyle and use it as a "list".I'll be making coffee at home and doing my laundry in the sink which is really not such a hardship. I've heard that the unemployed are a very healthy bunch since they spend more time at the gym and yoga and eat all their meals at home. The concept of the "list" is a place where you can write things down that you want or like and just observe them without actually acting on those thoughts. After all, it is just the wanting mind, right? that particular condition of the mind where it's grasping here there and everywhere for things that seem like the key to our happiness but in actuality just end up getting swallowed and digested and in an instant the cycle starts again. Guess that's the definition of short lived pleasures. Now more than ever I'm reminding myself that everything I need is already here!

You work here you don't work here

Getting laid off is crazy confusing. I went to work to clean out my desk today( and it was embarrassing because I had WAY more stuff than I realized and the 6 people left in the office were like "um are you going to be able to carry all that on the subway?") but then I was offered freelance work to do in the office next week.Wonder of wonders but I can't quite wrap my head around it. One minute I'm never going to 286 spring street again and then the next I have a new job starting tomorrow at 286 spring street. I feel like taking on a new persona for the occasion. This is very good news but I STILL NEED A NEW JOB so if anybody knows about anything please tell me.

AH you were a heartbreaker

Got laid off today along with 5 of my coworkers. It felt weird sucky/scary. I am just sad because I really liked my job and office life. Guess everything happens for a reason and there are good things about it like being forced to consider doing something different career wise and temporarily I can enjoy my lovely sunny apartment during the day and take a extra long lunch breaks in the park.

Laughing and Scratching

I was considering getting Frosti a new scratching post but it seems he likes the one he has just fine in addition to scraping his claws down the sides of every corner in the apartment. The two other scratchers are both interesting designs and opposite price points. DIY round one here. Mobius strip esq one here.

Lamp+shade

Got a lampshade for the lamp my parents gave me. The lamp itself is pretty old from the early 1960's or maybe even 1950's. I like how it turned out. I'm kinda sick of making decor decisions but it's fun to get closure on each small project.

Fir and Fur

I forgot to put my fir branches in my window boxes before I put the trailer park plastic over my windows.  There are two points of note here.

1)Next winter I'll have to remember to switch the order of operations and get the organic matter (branches and pine cones) in the boxes & pots before the synthetic(plastic) comes along and seals everything off limits.

2) A home that has a likeness to a trailer is actually a good thing. Check out more pics of travel trailers here. They are so awesome and campy.

P.S. speaking of fur,  Frosti  has his winter coat right now and there is no other way to describe him besides "fuzzy" and maybe little crabby since I clipped just the tiniest tips of his claws today.

Kachinas never get old

Oh kachinas. I heart you. I knew there was something I wanted to be last Halloween that I forgot about. Note to self- next year Kachina. Via old chum.

Warm White florescent bulbs

The true warm white florescent bulb is hard to find. I bought some at the hardware store called warm white and when I got them home the color still looked cool. The only ones I've found truly warm are sunpark 26 watt bulbs which Dennis gave me. Light quality is so important especially in the winter. If you know a source for warm whites please tell me. I'd like to buy a case of these bulbs. Also, they are huge! and bright. I would like to know if a smaller sized version is available.

Winter Things

Things to do during winter to make it a positive experience.
1) work out/take a yoga class. Get hot when it's cold out.

2)cook something. Check out "The 11 Best Foods You Aren't Eating"

3)get an amaryllis or some paper whites and watch them bloom

4)watch movies & shows outside the genre you normally watch like twilight and gossip girl

5)knit or crochet

6)go away overnight or for the weekend or a week

7)CLEAN so you don't have to do it in the spring

8)take a walk and get hot chocolate and some sun

9)take a class or workshop and apply for summer residencies. Above is Haystack Mountain School in winter. Look how pretty! You can see a sliver of ocean on the right.

10) get a haircut or a pedicure

Interview with Agnes Martin

Agnes Martin certainly had and definite and interesting perspective on art making which comes through when you look at her paintings.

Haiti Disaster relief

Give to disaster relief even if it's just $10. Anyone with a mobile phone and an account with a major wireless carrier can text the phrase “Haiti” to the number 90999 and donate $10 to the Red Cross. That amount is charged to the donor’s cellphone bill. Donating has never been easier.

More Shades at Just Shades

My quest for shades continues and I had a very productive visit to just shades on my lunch break today. This place has the cream of the crop as far as shades go and just what I was looking for-burlap drum shades for about $68 in all different colors and sizes. To the left you can see the striped burlap shade.

Mysore is number four

Excerpt from The 31 places to go in 2010
You’ve completed 200 hours of teacher training, mastered flying crow pose and even spent a week at yoga surf camp. What’s next? Yogis seeking transcontinental bliss head these days to Mysore, the City of Palaces, in southern India.
The yogi pilgrimage was sparked by Ashtanga yoga, a rigorous sweat-producing, breath-synchronized regimen of poses popularized by the beloved Krishna Pattabhi Jois, who died at 94 in 2009. Mr. Jois’s grandson is now director of the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute (www.kpjayi.org). First month’s tuition is 27,530 rupees, or $600 at 46 rupees to the dollar. Classes generally require a one-month commitment.
Too much time or money? Mysore’s yoga boom now has shalas catering to every need. Off the mat, the yoga tribe hobnobs at Anu’s Bamboo Hut or the Regaalis Hotel pool, studies Sanskrit, gets an ayurveda treatment or tours the maharaja’s palace. — Mary Billard

Fake or Real?

Fake! These handmade porcelain apples come in granny smith or fiji. Would be nice to use in a still life or sculpture because it wouldn't require replacing like a real apple over and over and over again.

Bookshelves

I have bookshelves on the brain! It occurred to me the other day when I visited my friend's studio  that the bookshelves in my art studio should ONLY have art related books, art supplies and art! not photos of me and my Dad, not yoga books and not boxes of jewelry. This is literally a book shelf.

Vintage Victorian Wallpaper

Colds and Movies

I have a bad cold which is preventing my brain from working properly so have mercy on me. Been busy holding Frosti on my lap and listening to books on tape since that seems to be the only thing that will permeate my head. We watched a lot of good movies over break. Julia Child had a nice fashion sense as did Zooey Deschanel in 500 Days of Summer...not necessarily stuff I'd want to wear but fun to look at on screen.

Rilke Letters to a Young Poet

I was talking to a friend about garbha pindasana(womb ball yoga pose) and how I'd been trying to do it for a year and I was frustrated because a year seemed like a long time and she recited to me an insightful piece of poetry from Rilke's letters to a young poet. This was not the particular passage she said aloud but an equally lovely one with a similar gist focusing on the illusion of time. Especially around the new year time has a way of taking on more importance than necessary.

"A year doesn't matter; ten years are nothing. To be an artist means not to compute or count; it means to ripen as the tree, which does not force its sap, but stands unshaken in the storms of spring with no fear that summer might not follow. It will come regardless. But it comes only to those who live as though eternity stretches before them, carefree, silent, and endless. I learn it daily, learn it with many pains, for which I am grateful: Patience is all!"

Happy New Year!

Goodbye 2009 hello 2010.I am welcoming in the new year now since last night I fell asleep at 9:30 pm which is a little lame but did enable me to practice yoga today and put my feet behind my head which came as a complete surprise to me. This is funny only because one of my friends at work asks me on a regular basis as a joke if I went to yoga and put my feet behind my head. Usually my answer is "no but any day now" or "no but hopefully soon" and now I can tell him yes I did that on the first day of the new year in 2010.

The Ghost of Christmas decorations past

Let there be light

The week between Christmas and New Years is invaluable. I intend to recover from all the wild things that happen during Christmas while still enjoying a few last days of outdoor lights. Which of the following are true?

a)I polished off 2 quarts of egg nog in 2 weeks
b)Frosti had filet mignon for dinner
c)My Dad watches fox 5 news and believes every second of it
d)I have to work on new years eve

All scary all true.

Etched glass mirrors

I'd like a different bathroom mirror because the new tiny sink forces me to smash my forehead against the medicine cabinet in order to brush my teeth. I'm thinking of replacing the cabinet with something wall mounted and vintage looking.I found an ideal one at ikea(top left) which was tiny and had etched flowers at the top but it was meant to sit on a dresser and had dumb metal glued to the back for the prop mechanism. What a bummer because mirrors are expensive...I never knew.

Alternative Christmas decor

I wish I'd been able to do more with Christmas decorating this season but it was pretty impossible. I saw lots of new agey ornaments that I liked involving feathers. I wonder what else would look good on a new age christmas tree? maybe eggs? or prisms and crystals? it would have to be a live tree with very fine needles or a blue spruce.

Victorian Christmas Cards

I love these naturalistic Victorian Christmas cards from the 1880's.

Best Brooklyn Granny Cart

I should take a walk with my granny cart every morning because it's crazy funny! After procrastinating on the laundry pick up I was determined to take my cart on it's maiden voyage this AM on possibly the worst carting weather day of the year due to deep, brown, corner slush. I couldn't stop laughing. Pushing that cart makes me feel like a kid pushing a child's size grocery cart at the supermarket not to mention navigating it over the bumpy packed snow and ice. It was just ridiculous....especially driving it through the Christmas tree stand on Driggs.

Bargain hunting

I know this looks just like the last picture but I'm really excited because I found an enormous $10 piece of butcher block at ikea. It was birch instead of beech but whatevs it was $10 instead of $89 in the "as is" section.

Counters and such

Here's what Dennis and I have been working on. I do not know the meaning of delayed gratification. The silverware is already in the drawer even though there is no counter top. We could've added a 36" cabinet but I wanted that spot for the trash and two kinds of recycling.

Cheerful Thoughts

Ugh the holidays.Somehow they aren't so fun and exciting as they used to be. Here are some cheerful thoughts for anyone who needs them besides me.

Family jokes though rightly cursed by strangers, are the bond that keep most families alive.-Stella Benson

Life, believe, it is not a dream so dark as sages say; Oft a little morning rain(or snow) foretells a pleasant day.-Charlotte Bronte

We can't all be heroes because someone has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by.-Will Rogers

If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them. -Henry David Thoreau

I especially like this one because it sounds like something my Dad would say to me and his Dad would've said to him.

Razors pain you; Rivers are damp; Acids stain you; And drugs cause cramp. Guns aren't lawful; Nooses give; Gas smells awful; You might as well live -Dorothy Parker

Egg Nog Coffee not from Starbucks

I need a day off but I can't take one off but at least I have a morning off from yoga.I love it when I go. I love it when I don't. As an added celebratory effect I put eggnog in my coffee this AM instead of milk. A lot of people don't like it but I LOVE EGG NOG! After pine tree smell in nyc full fat egg nog is my second fave thing about the holidays.

Moving stoves and lines

These pipes + labor cost $100 which I guess is a bargain but still seems like a lot. I got my stove moved today so I can add some lower cabinets and a countertop. It's going to be wicked and even more wicked cool if I can get my landlord to split the cost with me. It is also no longer a mystery why this apartment had a mouse problem...they were coming directly through the floor under those pipes to the crumbs in the broiler. It was the most direct mouse meal in history.

Bookshelves

Today we put my bookshelves up. They were formerly kitchen shelves/counter and today were reincarnated as bookshelves. I resisted using them because it was hard envisioning them anyplace else besides in my old kitchen but now I'm so happy they are on the wall and not underfoot. Been looking for ideas on how to arrange them.

Mociun & Corwin wall calendar

Another stellar holiday gift or just a gift period is the Mociun & Corwin wall calendar. Here are photos of the 2009 and 2010 versions. These are made with cut paper shapes.

Alexander Girard Curtains

My big accomplishment so far today was remembering I had a power strip, finding it, and plugging my microwave into it so I could reheat a cup of coffee. It took about 30 minutes to find the strip but it was worth it. I also insulated my air conditioning and ordered some new curtains which I love in the picture and hope I will continue to love once installed. It's freezing and these are the steps I'm taking to avoid plastic over the windows. Sumimasen(pardon me in Japanese) but I like to see clearly out the windows even during the winter months.

Recap on the Yankee Swap

The yankee swap was really fun. Here's a list of what exchanged hands...first off, I must say that I happily ended up with 2 types of bacon chocolate from vosges and bacon salt which I'm looking forward to trying on my eggs tomorrow morning.
The gifts-mexican art cross, art journal, lotto tickets, movie tickets, bacon chocolate,Jonathan Lethem novel, sctoch and lotto tickets, espresso pot, chipotle gift card, startbucks gift card, $20 bill, amazon $25 gift, barnes and noble gift card, candles, headphones, coffee table books and the 1st season of "sons of anarchy" which is a TV show and was surprisingly a popular item.

Natural Fashion:Tribal Decoration from Africa

This book is so beautiful. Great Christmas gift.

Coffee Time

I gotta get some coffee up in here. Today I waded through a gaggle of school kids at the deli to get mine.It was chaotic but then one girl told me that she liked my hair because it was so soft and silky and I said thanks and we all laughed.

Yankee Swap

Tomorrow is our yankee swap at work. Yankee swap is also referred to as dirty santa, the white elephant exchange,Cajun Christmas, backward auction and Indian bingo. We are supposed to contribute a nice gift(not a gag gift) for about $20 but it seems that everybody spends more like $25 or $30.This year I'm giving the bialetti mini express with 2 espresso cups.I'll let you know how it goes over.Last year I gave a sigg water bottle with a silicone ice cube tray that made ice sticks to go in the bottle. The year before that paperwhite flowers.

Arrow Tote

Upon Jaime K's suggestion I ordered this new tote and it's perfect. I love it! Thanks, Jaime. It kinda matches my new slippers a little too much.

Big River Man

I learned about Martin Strel because I was licensing photos of him for a book at work.He is in the Guinness Book of World Records for, among other things, swimming the amazon river. I'm itching to see the documentary Big River Man. Read the nytimes review here.

1970's style wall hangings

Urban outfitters is selling all this cool Alexander Girard stuff which in pictures looks great in the home. The far left is a Neutra house I learned about via the LA Times. I just love screenprints on stretched canvas.

Everybody keeps asking

how Frosti is doing since we moved and I think he's doing just fine. Here are some pictures of my improvements to the bathroom.Rope wrapped heat pipe and teak shower mat hiding rust spots.I like how perfectly it fits and the rope is especially nice because of its reflection in the mirror. I also have a new solution for when Frosti keeps me up at night.
Step 1. I shut him in the bathroom for a few minutes.
Step 2. I let him out.
Step 3. he's so cold that he runs into my bed and never leaves till morning.

Chocolate Bacon Pancake Mix

This sounds kinda gross but I've heard it's delicious...tried a sample of the bacon chocolate bar on it's own and it was smokey and delightful. An unusual and interesting holiday gift.

Faux Fur Slipper Boot

It's a whole new world on Lorimer Street. My apartment is cold, I need a granny cart and it's snowing. I invested in some slippers which is not my usual indoors house look. Normally I wear flip flops year round but these Britney Spears Indian Princess style slippers were irresistible.

Prescription Cat food is the bane of my existence

Most people won't care about this but I really do and so might Jesse and Jaime K. Order prescription cat food here and avoid carrying a heavy case in the rain on a Saturday morning when you have no free hands to even buy a coffee. Also, I did the math and if you order 6 cases it ends up being cheaper than the vet price.

Kate Moss May 2003

They sell all this crap on the street in soho and today I walked by a table that had a bunch of framed old vogue covers and I saw this image above and just loved it.I walked away because it seemed impulsive to buy something on the street meant for tourists but now I can't get it out of my head.

Haikus on moving

Jaime K requested a Haiku about moving.Here are 5.

I got some new socks
there was a hole in my heel
from climbing stairways

One hundred percent
chaos of a twister
regress to girlhood

Where is anything?
shoe boxes on the sidewalk
never belong there

I shattered the bulbs
when the lamp dropped on the floor
swept up way later

The last thing to go
was two pieces of paper

Patrick Brennan FAZES

Daily Operation presents Patrick Brennan’s first solo show in New York, "FAZES". This show will include a selection of works that highlight his distinct approach to abstract painting. Hints of moons, crosses, stars, and galaxies appear but the viewer is compelled to collect their own narrative.

His work has recently been seen at Artists Space, Heskin Contemporary, Kent State University, Mississippi State University, Apartment Show, and the Deli Storeroom.

"FAZES" opens Dec. 5, from 6-9PM and runs through Dec 12.

103 Reade St. #2
New York, NY

Daily Operation is a curatorial project by Jon Lutz. It has and will include shows in studios, apartments, parks, empty real estate, and other venues.

Some gift ideas from Shopsin's General Store

The 5 year diary in blue ticking stripe, black industrial strength pencil case that hides stains acquired from kicking around and last but certainly not least edo napkins. The pencil case would also make a very chic makeup holder.

Burning it up

Tonight after work, appropriately scheduled on a full moon day,I will hold a smudge fest at my apartment in hopes of eliminating bad vibes.First things first, I bought the cedar and sage stick on the way to work this morning and immediately noticed that it looks just like the Christmas trees bound up on the sidewalk which in my opinion is just about the best thing about the holiday season, pine smell in nyc. The point of burning the sage stick to create smoke that clings to and ultimately consumes bad energies. It's the same principal as yoga, creating heat to burn up impurities.

Slip-N-Snip Scissors and can-tainer

Gravel & Gold online store is now open and there's some nice things like these compact collapsible scissors and this can-tainer which can hold just about anything on your bike. Also good for cigarette butts if you're an eco friendly bike smoker.

Merry Christmas to Me three weeks early

Bought a teak shower mat to protect myself from getting tetanus from the shower floor. Once the heat pipe gets wrapped with rope it'll be a regular spa or at worst a glorified cat scratching post.

1978 Paris Dakar Rally

1982 Paris Dakar Rally

Mark Thatcher aka. Sir Mark notoriously got lost during the 1982 rally and was found in the desert after being for stranded 6 days with his car and mechanic. He said he was fine but could use a sandwich, shave and shower.

oh what will I find?

Oh what will I find in NH? besides lots of free food, cheap wine and mixed nuts.I hope to find some warm clothes and something I forgot I had.I also hope to find that nice bright yellow dresser with the marble top. My Dad made me laugh the other day because he said the tenant in our house was "a real Mainer" and what proved him as such was a) that his friends look like giants and b) he drives a monster truck or maybe an ATV which brings me to my latest obsession...the Paris Dakar rally.

The Brooklyn Kitchen Labs

I am not a cook but when I saw this place last night it made me want to be a cook or at least be a wannabe cook. The facade is entirely glassy and bright and no longer resembles the picture above. The brooklyn kitchen labs opened on November 16th and offers:

Lab #1: a 1500sf teaching space with room for 20 hands on and 60 demonstration

Lab #2: a 1000sf teaching space with room for 15 hands on and 35 demonstration

The Meat Hook: a full service custom butcher shop presided over by Tom Mylan and Brent Young

The Bulk Room: bulk oils, vinegars, beans, rice, flour, chocolate, spices and other ingredients, sourced as locally as possible

Our Research library: Our collection of rare and out-of-print cookbooks can be viewed for inspiration

Brewing Supplies: Everything you need to make beer at home, including whole grains, and tools for rent

Baking supplies: tips, pastry bags, fondant, food coloring, gelatin and more.

Frosti forks

For a second I thought I was going to have to use my lone fork for Frosti's food.I like to separate people forks from cat forks but then I realized there was a single plastic fork hanging out at the bottom of the recycling bin.Sorry pacific garbage patch, but it really came in handy last night. It's majorly strange to sleep in an apartment with nothing in it except a cat and a bag of clean laundry. In an effort to get away from creepy empty apartment I made it to yoga 45 mins early this morning. I felt bad leaving Frosti but I doubt he gives a care.

Moving

Moving is so weird. It's really hard and scary and today I felt like I'd thrown out the stuff I needed and kept the stuff I didn't.Sometimes it's really difficult to know which is which.I did find my new striped glove that'd been lost for the past week.It was in my dirty clothes.I've also been observing the "last to go" Frosti, his things(litter, bed, food, toys) my bed, a stack of records where I've been resting my computer.White noise machine, knife, fork and spoon.Plate, bottle of wine and recycling bin.I'm sure there are a few more bags of trash and my bathroom accoutrements but that's about it.Oh, also, how could I forget! the blue, plastic smiley face bowl full of pennies and maybe some currency from Mexico or an old subway token.

Ellen Kennedy

These are like the opposite of the garbage patch sample.Look at more of her work at South Willard.

Pacific Garbage Patch

Sorry to be a buzz kill but everybody should know about the garbage patch. It's 2x the size of Texas and floats around in the waters between Hawaii and CA.I'm researching photos of it at work for a book. Please watch this video on TED. It's highly dangerous to animals and people because birds mistake bottle caps for food and fish eat the little pieces of plastic.Above is a sample trolled from one miles worth of water in that area.

SASS-short for Steven Alan Sample Sale

Last week I thought thursday was wednesday and this week I thought wednesday was thursday. The steven alan sample sale is tomorrow not today. Somebody needs to either slap me or throw a glass of water in my face. I dragged my coworker there on lunch today but all was not lost! We got tacos from the truck and went to opening ceremony.
